Mohamed Aissa: “Nefarious Intelligence Circles Are Bent On Undermining Ancestral Maliki School in Algeria”

A package of 100 million dinars will be allotted for the promotion of the works of Algerian Ulemas or religious scholars focusing on the Malekite religious rite, announced Tuesday in Ain Defla province, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Mr. Mohamed Aïssa.
This sizable financial package will be devoted in particular to the printing of the works of Algerian Ulemas and researchers who will contribute to make the Malekite rite better known through the ages, said the minister who presided over the opening, on Tuesday morning, of the 14th edition of the symposium on the ins and outs of this religious rite.
The minister also stated that some nefarious circles are covertly seeking to undermine the ancestral Malekite religious rite in Algeria through the dissemination of warped notions and disinformation practices.
“The contribution of Algerian Ulemas to the Malekite rite remains rather unknown,” said Mr. Aïssa, arguing that this religious trend that refers to the national religious landmark “has been deeply rooted among the Algerian population for many centuries now.
“It could not be more fundamental to show that Algerian Ulemas or religious scholars have always endeavored to establish a practice of religion not static and wide open to knowledge, banishing any form of extremism and fanaticism,” he underscored in this context.
The religious affairs minister further said in response to a reporter’s question about the recent baffling statements made by Salafist Sheikh Ali Farkous that the security and justice departments “are the only bodies authorized to judge the statements of the man, whether normal or disruptive,” adding, “We as Algerians, we ought to defend and uphold our religious landmarks and references”.
